The Ho Airport has begun operations with the first flight landing at the multi-million dollar facility. Operations started on Thursday, April 15 and the first flight was an Africa World Airlines’ commercial airbus. The first test flight landed at the airport at exactly 14:20 hours GMT with the price from the capital, Accra to Ho being GHC 99. Social commentator, Bernard Allotey Jacobs has slammed the Managing Director of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) for attributing the power cuts in the country to challenges with Bui Power Plant. GRIDCo is said to have told the Minister of Energy, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, that the Bui Power Plant was a causative agent of the intermittent power supply. The company, at a press briefing on the issue, explained that the Bui Power Plant had been shut down because of low water in the dam. GRIDCo noted that it is due to this problem that certain parts of Ghana are currently experiencing power cuts, referred to in local parlance as 'dumsor'. In the wake of the recent cut in power supply across the country, some celebrities and religious leaders including Prophet Kofi Oduro have slammed the government for putting Ghanaians in discomfort and ruining businesses.
